UC Transfer Resources and Tips

UCs are incredibly transfer-friendly schools (especially for California community college students). Here are some of the resources that they offer to prospective transfers, as well as some of my own recommendations.

Assist.org

Assist.org outlines all of the classes you need to transfer from any California community college to any UC for all available majors. It is the place to start your academic preparation and is recommended by UCs and CCs for students wanting to transfer.

**Note: If you are attending a college that is not a California community college, on ASSIST.org, select the UC you are interested in, then select any college in order to see the requirements for your intended major.

UC Tap

Alongside Assist.org, you can track the classes you have taken, as well as the grade you've gotten, here in UC Tap. You can then easily transfer all of this information over to the UC application when you're ready to apply. I personally did this and found it to be very helpful in both allowing me to track my progress and in saving me time when I began the actual application process.

UC TAG Program

The UC Tag Program is a great way to get guaranteed (yes, guaranteed!) admission to one of six UC campuses. Check out the Tag Matrix to determine what the requirements are to fulfil the transfer agreement with one of the following schools:

  • UC Irvine
  • UC Davis
  • UC Merced
  • UC Riverside
  • UC Santa Barbara
  • UC Santa Cruz

You'll notice that three UCs (UCB, UCLA, & UCSD) are not included in TAG. Continue scrolling for more information about those UCs, as well as some other programs specific to UCLA and UCB that can increase your chances of admission.

UCLA General Transfer Information

This page includes a breakdown of some fast facts, like the GPA you need, minimum number of courses, etc. to transfer to UCLA. There are also some great articles about the application, and how to best prepare yourself if UCLA is one of your goal schools.

UCSD General Transfer Information

This page includes a breakdown of some fast facts, like the GPA you need, minimum number of courses, etc. to transfer to UCSD. There are also some great articles about the application, and how to best prepare yourself if UC San Diego is one of your goal schools.

UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (TAP)

The TAP program at UCLA allows students who are certified by their college's honors instructor to apply to the University with both a primary and secondary major. This means that if you are not accepted to UCLA under your primary major, they will review your application for your secondary major as well (essentially allowing you two chances of admission).

I talk more about UCLA TAP in this video:

#greenscreen lets talk about UCLA tap. I personally did this and many of my friends (also successful applicants) did this as well. #communitycollege #transferstudent #transferstudents #ucla #uclatransfer #transfertea

UC Berkeley Transfer Alliance Project (TAP)

Not to be confused with UCLA's TAP - ( the UCs love a good acronym...)

UC Berkeley's TAP provides support services to students at specific schools outlined on their website. This support includes advising, mentorship, application assistance, and so on. Check out the website to see if your school is listed here, if it is make sure to take advantage of these free services!
